Mod support status at a glance
“A mod exists” and “the game supports mods” are not equivalent claims. This table distinguishes EA’s official position from third-party activity and distribution services that could host unofficial work.
| Area | Current status | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Official mod support | No support planned | EA’s FAQ explicitly says official modding support is not planned. |
| Editor or SDK | Not officially confirmed | No public first-party creation toolkit has been announced. |
| Community projects | Unofficial | Any file edits, tools, or managers are maintained by their individual authors. |
| Nexus Mods | Third-party platform | A game page or upload would not change EA’s support policy. |
| Steam Workshop | Not officially confirmed | The Steam release does not by itself establish Workshop integration. |
| Console mods | Not officially confirmed | No supported PS5 or Xbox Series mod channel has been announced. |
This status is stricter than “support has not been discussed.” EA has answered the question and says it has respect for the modding community but does not plan official support. A future policy can change, yet it would require a new first-party announcement rather than an assumption based on community interest.
What official mod support would require
Official support normally comes with a developer statement, documented file format, creation tools, or a supported distribution path; Zero Company currently has none of those announced.
A proper toolset gives creators a known way to package content and tells players which game systems are safe to change. Documentation can define version compatibility, load order, save behavior, and the boundary between cosmetic work and campaign logic. Without that foundation, a file that works today may rely on an internal structure that changes in the next patch.
The game’s extensive built-in character customization should not be confused with modding. Creating Hawks or a custom Operator through supported menus uses assets and rules shipped by the developer. Replacing textures, altering balance data, injecting code, or unpacking archives is a separate activity and remains unofficial even when the result resembles an ordinary customization option.
What to expect from community mods
Early community work is most likely to focus on configuration changes, interface conveniences, cosmetic replacements, or save-related tools, but no category should be treated as available until a real release can be inspected.
Community authors often learn a new game gradually. The first upload may be a narrow experiment rather than a polished package, and one author’s method can conflict with another’s. Read the description for the supported game build, required loader, affected files, installation path, known conflicts, and removal instructions. A screenshot proves that a result was achieved once; it does not establish compatibility with every storefront or patch.
Protect a campaign before changing anything. Keep an untouched backup of saves and any file the mod replaces, then test one modification at a time. After an update, launch clean first and wait for the author to confirm compatibility. If a problem appears, remove the change according to its instructions and reproduce the same scene without it before blaming the base game.
Nexus Mods status
Nexus Mods is an independent hosting service, so a Zero Company page or download there would represent community activity, not official support from EA, Bit Reactor, or Lucasfilm Games.
Nexus can be useful because individual files may include version histories, dependencies, author notes, user posts, and manual installation details. Those signals help with evaluation, but the platform cannot guarantee that every upload is current or appropriate for your setup. Prefer the original author page, scan the recent discussion for the current game version, and avoid reuploads whose source cannot be traced.
A mod manager label is also not a compatibility certificate. Some projects may support one-click deployment while others overwrite files directly or require a separate loader. Understand what the manager changes and how it restores the original install. Never provide account credentials to a tool merely because its description mentions Zero Company.
Steam Workshop status
Steam sells the PC version, but official Steam Workshop integration is not officially confirmed. Store availability alone does not create a Workshop pipeline.
Workshop support must be enabled and implemented for the specific game. When it exists, subscribing can simplify downloads and updates, but it still does not mean every item is made or tested by the developer. Zero Company’s current Steam product information should therefore be read as a purchase and requirements listing, not evidence of an official mod browser.
Be cautious with community posts that use “Workshop” as a generic word for mods. A guide that tells players to copy files into a folder is manual modding, even if it appears in a Steam discussion. Check whether the page is an actual Workshop item tied to app 2075800 before assuming Steam manages installation or removal.
Could official support arrive later?
A later change is possible in principle, but future tools, Workshop support, console mods, and a revised policy are not officially confirmed.
The clearest evidence would be a new EA or Bit Reactor announcement, an official documentation page, or a tool distributed through a verified game channel. A developer interview expressing appreciation for creators is not the same as committing engineering and support resources. The present FAQ already sets a clear launch-era expectation: players should not buy the game on the assumption that official modding will follow.
Community discoveries can still grow independently, especially on PC, but their value depends on maintenance after patches. Judge the file in front of you rather than an imagined future ecosystem. Players who prefer a fully supported experience can use the built-in Operator customization and difficulty options without touching game files.
