Specialization role map
Specializations are tactical toolkits rather than rigid character classes. A primary choice establishes what an Operator wants to do most turns; a secondary choice can make that job safer, add a setup tool, or open a different answer when the preferred plan is blocked.
| Specialization | Role and playstyle |
|---|---|
| Assault | Close-range initiator using charges, melee pressure, and explosive entries. |
| Gunslinger | Mobile pistol attacker built around chained shots and Combat Stim turns. |
| Heavy | Armored gunner who attracts pressure, controls lanes, and anchors the frontline. |
| Medic | Recovery specialist who heals allies and uses Combat Stim to raise offense. |
| Scoundrel | Debuffer and critical-hit enabler who aims at weaknesses and creates openings. |
| Scout | Recon support that discovers threats, marks targets, and improves battlefield information. |
| Sharpshooter | Long-range precision damage with critical hits and wounded-target executions. |
| Soldier | Durable all-rounder with dependable attacks, defense, and flexible hybrid options. |
Assault
Assault is the breach role: it closes distance, crashes into a defended position, and follows the impact with melee attacks or short-range explosives. Charge-style movement is both its engine and its danger, because the same action that reaches a priority enemy can carry the Operator beyond allied protection.
Mobility Talents strengthen the entry, while Soldier adds defense afterward. Kabb suits the role because his knockback and action refund reward close-range chains. Assault breaks static formations quickly, but spread-out enemies and overlapping fire punish a charge with no safe exit.
Gunslinger
Gunslinger turns pistols into an action-efficient stream of attacks. Chained shots let the Operator finish several weakened enemies or press one important target, while Combat Stim supports a burst turn when the squad needs immediate tempo rather than patient setup.
Scoundrel adds debuffs and Crit openings; Scout offers safer angles. Jae fits the style because her finishing talent rewards precise damage. Gunslinger is flexible, but armor and long range reduce its efficiency, and chasing one extra shot can leave the Operator exposed after Combat Stim.
Heavy
Heavy combines sustained fire with the ability to draw enemy attention. It claims a lane, threatens anyone who crosses it, and gives fragile allies room to operate behind a target the opposition cannot comfortably ignore. Defensive Talents turn that pressure into a proper tank role.
Soldier reinforces defense, while Medic supplies recovery. Trick is the clearest authored fit for a formation needing one visible frontliner. Heavy excels on objectives and chokepoints, but poor mobility and focused attacks expose it on wide maps. Even the toughest build still needs cover.
Medic
Medic protects the squad's action economy by restoring an injured Operator instead of letting wounds remove that character's future turns. Combat Stim keeps the role proactive, trading pure recovery for a timely damage boost when ending a threat is safer than healing through its attacks.
Heavy makes a durable holding hybrid; Soldier keeps the support plan flexible. Hawks can preserve the allies whose assists power his leadership bonus. Medic is forgiving, but excessive healing prolongs fights that damage could end. Stay near the team, behind the first enemy wave.
Scoundrel
Scoundrel wins by making targets easier to kill. It applies debuffs, aims at exposed weaknesses, and turns careful setup into critical hits. The specialization is less about one spectacular attack than about changing the odds so that the next two or three attacks become decisive.
Gunslinger converts openings into repeated shots, while Sharpshooter magnifies them from safety. Luco benefits from the Crit focus around Combat Gas. Scoundrel amplifies team damage but needs setup time; apply the debuff before activating finishers, then concentrate fire before the target escapes.
Scout
Scout supplies information that keeps the squad from walking into a bad exchange. Discovery tools, Combat Recon, and target marks reveal where pressure is coming from and identify the enemy worth attacking. That knowledge improves movement as much as accuracy.
Sharpshooter turns marks into distant kills; Gunslinger makes a mobile hybrid. Cly also values recon before committing Combat Jump. Scout excels on spacious, unfamiliar maps, but contributes less once every enemy is visible. Do not recon beyond the squad's ability to act.
Sharpshooter
Sharpshooter delivers accurate long-range fire, builds toward critical hits, and removes wounded targets before they can retreat or activate. Distance is a resource for this specialization: every clear tile between shooter and threat protects the attacker's next turn.
Scout supplies vision, while Scoundrel prepares larger critical hits. Jae naturally rewards the same clean angles, and Luco can strengthen a stable firing zone. Sharpshooter dominates open lanes but suffers when walls or forced movement break sightlines; use Soldier or Heavy as protection.
Soldier
Soldier is the dependable all-rounder, combining straightforward attacks with defense that works without an elaborate combo. It can hold a useful tile, cover an ally, or add damage wherever the squad's specialists have already created an opening.
Assault gains post-charge safety, Medic becomes harder to remove, and Heavy gets a firmer core. Hawks suits a generalist who stays in formation for assists. Reliability is Soldier's strength and a lower tactical ceiling its weakness, so define one job before selecting Talents.
